Organization Profile

The Shelter Detox is looking for a motivated individual who is interested in client care, advocacy and working collaboratively with a care team to help individuals stabilize and reach their goals. The Addictions Worker II works from a strong harm reduction and trauma-informed perspective and will be able to maneuver around barriers that come with poverty, homelessness, mental health issues and addiction. 

The Addiction Worker II’s main role is to interact directly with clients; their primary responsibility is to ensure that the client’s needs are assessed and met and will take on the role of supervisor when required.​

Responsibilities: 

  • Promotes conflict resolution, positive communication and respect through positive reinforcement, role modeling and supportive listening.
  • Completes intake discharge process
  • Supports clients by driving them to appointments, helping connect them with housing, ID clinics and other supports as needed
  • Engages and promotes positive and open relationship building with clients, staff and external services
  • Assists in care and safety planning
  • Complies and adheres to GSS Policies, Procedures and Accreditation standards
  • Promotes a safe environment by reporting potential safety hazards, preforming emergency drills and responding to emergencies
  • Consults with Supervisor in a supportive role
  • Complies daily statistics and documentation

Position Requirements

▪ Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

▪ Ability to prioritize and work well in a fast paste environment with competing demands

▪ A valid driver’s license and ability to drive the centre van

▪ Secondary Education in the Human Services Field

Hours

This will be 12 hours shifts on a 4on/4off day rotation

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a minimum high school diploma, college or university preferred.  They will have a valid driver’s license, current first aid and CPR and must have a minimum of 3 experience working with vulnerable populations
