ABC Head Start is accepting applications for a Social Worker.  Reporting to the Site Supervisor, the Social Worker works with families of children enrolled in ABC Head Start to strengthen parent/child relationships and expand the family’s resources.  The Social Worker is supported by the Professional Practice Mentor and plays a key role on the inter-disciplinary team providing Early Learning programming and services that are responsive to the diversity of the populations we serve.

Responsibilities:

  • Foster relationship building with site team, the agency, partners and community resources
  • Work collaboratively with the site team and community stakeholders to create a family friendly environment
  • Participate with the site team to link parent programming and involvement with early learning program
  • Identify community resources and contacts, and assist families to connect with resources and arrange case conferences when necessary
  • Work collaboratively with site team to create meaningful opportunities for family involvement in programming by tapping into their talents, interests and availability
  • Work with families to identify priorities and develop action steps to address those priorities in their individual and family life
  • Support self advocacy practices to assist families to become their own best advocates
  • Plan, organize and facilitate family gatherings to ensure the group reflects the needs and interests of families
  • Schedule and conduct meetings for reporting children’s progress in collaboration with site team members and ensuring families and other service providers are involved in the process
  • Participate in the intake process (application, screening and registration) in accordance to the program eligibility criteria and policy
  • Schedule visits with families to complete the screening process and required documents as well as exploring program participation options with the family
  • Complete all documentation related to the application, screening and registration process and submitting documents to the Main Office in accordance to the Agency timelines
  • Compile and collect necessary demographics and statistics for programming and reporting purposes

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Social Work Degree or Social Work Diploma
  • Registered Member of the Alberta College of Social Workers
  • Related experience in working with families with young children
  • Experienced working in multidisciplinary teams
  • Knowledge of community resources in the Edmonton area
  • Suicide Prevention Training is preferred
  • Valid Driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle

Start Date: As soon as suitable candidate is available

Compensation:  $39, 824.93- $51,900.98 annually prorated based on start date and based on education and experience.  We offer a comprehensive, competitive, extended health benefits package including RRSP contribution and generous vacation benefits.

Work Location: Millwoods Campus located at Millbourne Market Mall, 7609 38 Avenue
