Capacity Building

Governance

Competent and resilient organizations are led by skilled and knowledgeable boards. Working with our partners in the community, ECVO participates in, and coordinates a broad range of capacity building opportunities designed specifically to build strong boards and board members.

Organizational Supports

ECVO promotes organizational best practices across the nonprofit sector. Our learning opportunities and resources are focused on topics of relevance regardless of an organization’s sub-sector. Current learning opportunities are advertised in our bi-weekly E-Bulletin, in our events calendar and in the Sparesmarts Calendar of Learning Events.

Leadership Development

Part of our role at ECVO is to work as a catalyst, promoting the ongoing development of leaders in the nonprofit sector. Currently we are:

  • convening the sector to strengthen government relations strategies
  • negotiating with international service providers to deliver leadership skills training in Edmonton later this year
  • publishing the Sparemarts calendar of learning opportunities
  • partnering to offer Edmonton nonprofits and businesses access to Edmonton Spacefinder, a resource to match available space with organizations in need.

Collaborations and Partnerships

ECVO actively participates in partnerships that work for the benefit of the nonprofit sector at the local, provincial and national levels. At the local level we help to build networks and encourage and facilitate partnerships and collaborations.

Volunteerism

ECVO helps organizations to build and sustain their volunteer programs and services through resources, networking, and skill development opportunities. We also provide an online meeting place
(www.govolunteer.ca) where organizations and volunteers can connect.

Moving to Action

This initiative, now in its’ third year of operation, supports Edmonton’s nonprofit Human Services Sector. ECVO facilitates networks within the sector and helps organizations to explore opportunities for partnership and collaboration.
