The Women's Art Museum of Canada (WAM) collects, preserves and presents the visual heritage of Canadian women. WAM seeks to stimulate interest, appreciation and respect for women's art and creativity by educating the public about the context of women's cultural production. WAM promotes inclusivity and equal opportunity for Canadian women.

The Women’s Art Museum of Canada is looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Bilingual Women’s Visual Heritage Interpreter proficient in both French and English, who is flexible and who has strong attention to details skills. Thirty (30) hours per week and renumeration ($19-$21 per hour) will be based on the candidate’s experience. Key job requirements and qualifications are the following:

  1. Educational Background:
    • A degree in Art HistoryCultural Studies, or a related field is preferred.
    • Additional coursework or certifications in women’s studies or gender studies is beneficial.
  2. Language Proficiency:
    • Fluency in both French and English is essential, including the ability to interpret and communicate effectively in both languages.
    • Proficiency tests in either language may be required.
  3. Experience:
    • 1-3 years of experience in art interpretation, education, or related fields is an asset.
    • Experience working with diverse audiences, particularly in educational or museum settings, is a plus.
  4. Communication Skills:
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills in both languages are crucial.
    • Ability to engage and interpret effectively for various audiences, including school groups and adult learners.
  5. Knowledge of Women’s Visual Heritage:
    • A solid understanding of women’s contributions to art history and contemporary art practices.
    • Familiarity with key artists, movements, and themes related to women’s art.
  6. Additional Skills:
    • Experience with public speaking or educational programming an asset.
    • Skills in curriculum development for workshops or guided tours focused on women’s visual heritage or related areas an asset.
  7. Cultural Sensitivity:
    • Ability to convey historical narratives in an engaging and respectful manner, considering diverse cultural perspectives.
