Session 1: May 29, 2025 at 9:00 am – 4:30 pm
Session 2: May 30, 2025 at 9:00am – 4:30pm
Does updating your bylaws feel like an impossible and complicated task? Are you unsure of where to start from and what exactly needs to be included in your bylaws?

At Bylaws Lab, learn the latest best practices and ask the experts how you can make your bylaws fresh and future-ready in an evolving nonprofit sector. Experience dictates that new bylaws tend to take 15 – 30 hours of committee time. Our goal is to simplify with process for you.
This is a bylaws session for non-profits registered under the Societies Act. Representatives from nonprofits will gather for 2 days to have thoughtful, values-centered conversations and explore bylaw requirements, recommendations, and proven practices.
Our goal is that you will walk away with a rough draft of your new bylaws as well as a process for values-driven and strategic decision-making to explore with your board and membership. We will also be hosting a follow up session to allow you to come back with any questions you may have.
WHAT TO EXPECT
This 2-day highly interactive bylaws session offers expert knowledge on structuring your bylaws and best practices for making them fresh and future ready. It also offers a hands-on exploration of the topics and key questions your board and membership will need to answer to guide your decision-making. Participants will have lots of time to discuss with others from their organization and direct relate all their leaning to their organization.
Attendees of the session will be able to ask the experts present questions directly related to their organization.
WHAT YOU’LL LEAVE WITH
You will walk out of the session with deeper knowledge of bylaws, how they are structured, and key clauses that you need to include. You will also leave with a series of activities, questions, templates and resources to support you with exploring further conversation with your organization and finalizing your bylaws.
PLEASE NOTE
The price of this lab is for up to 3 committee members. The cost of the lab does not change if your organization chooses to send less than 3 participants
To get the most out of this lab, we encourage each organization to register at minimum 3 participants and we allow a maximum of 5 per organization. This will ensure thoughtful conversation and collaboration as we work through drafting relevant and useful bylaws for your organization.
Consider sending people with a strong understanding of your organization’s mission, vision, and values. Participants do not need to all be board members or staff. There can be great value in including volunteers, community members, and stakeholders in this process.
